Bissetii Bamboo Seeds | Privacy Climbing Garden Seeds | Fast Growing Screen
Bissetii Bamboo (Phyllostachys bissetii) is a vigorous, cold-hardy running bamboo prized for its fast growth, dense evergreen foliage, and superior screening abilities. It produces dark green, upright culms that reach 15–30 feet tall with about a 1-inch diameter, creating thick, lush groves ideal for privacy hedges, windbreaks, and container planting. Native to China, this tough species adapts well to various soil types and light conditions while requiring relatively low maintenance once established. As a running bamboo, it spreads via rhizomes and may need root barriers to control its spread in garden settings.
Recommended Growing Zones: USDA Zones 5–10
soak seeds in water for 12–24 hours to soften the seed coat and improve sprouting success. Plant the soaked seeds about ¼ to ½ inch deep in a well-draining, moist seed-starting mix (such as a blend of peat, perlite, and compost) and maintain consistent warmth around 70–85°F with high humidity—using a plastic cover or propagator helps. Keep the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged; the first seedlings usually emerge in 2–4 weeks, though germination can continue for several weeks. Provide indirect light initially and gradually acclimate the young seedlings to brighter conditions as they develop their first true leaves.
